Newburgh North Fife January 26th 2013

Newburgh North Fife yesterday. The snow is going to be replaced with lots of rain and sure enough today the Barony road was awash, like a shallow river, inches deep in places. Such are increasingly extreme weather conditions being experienced world wide. This is small beer, tiny, compared to many places. In Australia recently, fires everywhere, now floods, cyclones, In America, droughts, failing harvests, it goes on and on. It's the way it is.

Woods above Balhelvie Farm North Fife, they lie just to the East of my home, the snow adds a very different dimension highlighting the trees in the manner of a drawing. Snow changes the appearance of everything.

R.A.F Typhoons North Fife

A pair of R.A.F. Typhoons passing overhead returning to base at Royal Air Force Leuchars. The Station is primarily responsible for maintaining Quick Reaction Alert (Interceptor) North, providing crews and aircraft at high states of readiness 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, to police UK airspace and to intercept unidentified aircraft. This pair almost touching were the first back after a jolly in the highlands this morning, others drifted back one at a time. Noisily in misty snow shower conditions.

Luthrie, I just love this stand of Scots pine on the horizon, falling snow depicts it differently. The roads are passable with care, oh what fun.

Newburgh North Fife Jan 19th 2013

Geese North Fife yesterday, on the move looking for forage, given the snowy weather I wish them well.

Compared to England we're getting off lightly with the snow, a few inches but then another shower comes across.

14 minuets later I get to the studio in the Steeple building and the sun is shining. Yippee.

New Years Day North Fife

At this time of the year the "I Ching" (book of changes)recommends that the superior man stays indoors for rest and recuperation, how wise. The ground environment lies dormant, vegetation has died back, roots gathering nutrients for the fresh new growth in the spring. Having over done it last year, my body screams out for rest, going outside I still enjoy the ever changing skies over the River Tay in North Fife.

At least 5000 years old, the I Ching is a book of oracles containing the whole of human experience. Used for divination, it is a method of exploring the unconscious; through the symbolism of its hexagrams we are guided towards the solution of difficult problems and life situations. It can also be read as a book of wisdom revealing the laws of life to which we must all attune ourselves if we are to live in peace and harmony. I have consulted it for more than 40 years, it puts a different spin on life events and can lead to acceptable insight and understanding. A good aspiration. New Years Day North Fife.

A few minutes later the sky takes on a deeper hue. All change, January 3rd and it's grey skies over North Fife.

Rain December 22nd North Fife

December 22nd 2010 North Fife. We all know it has been raining big style over the whole of the UK, many places flooded, whole towns in the South West of England. We are having our not so wee rain dump as well, in places to roads are rivers, many closed, water gushing from fields, roadside ditches blocked, the overflow going wherever forming ponds in the dips and hollows in the roads, Ok if you wade the car slowly through.

A typical water hazard, not so bad compared with so many other places. Nevertheless it focuses the mind on climate change, actually it's not change, it's climate extremes. Just a bit more of whatever quality, too wet, too...... and not in accordance with the seasonal norms. What can one do? Just see it as the way it is. Be mindful and reduce anything that contributes harm to our environment, this is the only one we have.

Cupar Farmers Market North Fife

Cupar Farmers Market 15th December, now occupying its pitch in Crossgates Cupar on a two weekly basis adjacent to the Historic Market Cross. Open air markets are growing in popularity, local food, quality products, low food miles, a healthy alternative to Supermarkets which have had a negative impact on local producers.

Fresh prepared Haddock tied in pairs ready for the smoke. Eaten freshly cooked they are really hard to beat, there are always queues of buyers when ever they're on sale. A real food once tried and you'll be hooked.

Arbroath Smokies, haddock being hot smoked over hard wood, usually oak or beech. Meanwhile shoppers were serenaded with topical tunes played by the junior section of Fife Horn Union led by Margaret Douglass.
