Finally Spring has arrived, a wee bit late but now all growth is greening. It's even getting warmer. The whole season is about 3 weeks behind the norm, it's the middle of May and we're getting April showers of rain and hail, snow even on the high ground. Not that you need me to tell you about climate change.

North Fife April 9th

At last the snow has gone due to a shift in the wind, South Westerlies bringing warmer Atlantic air. I imagine that in a few weeks accelerated growth of vegetation will show itself. All the farms are busy ploughing and drilling seed crops, much later than usual but hopefully all will catch up. Climate change, each year is never the same, the last 12 months have been extreme on a global scale. We are all affected one way or another.

Rain December 22nd North Fife

December 22nd 2010 North Fife. We all know it has been raining big style over the whole of the UK, many places flooded, whole towns in the South West of England. We are having our not so wee rain dump as well, in places to roads are rivers, many closed, water gushing from fields, roadside ditches blocked, the overflow going wherever forming ponds in the dips and hollows in the roads, Ok if you wade the car slowly through.

A typical water hazard, not so bad compared with so many other places. Nevertheless it focuses the mind on climate change, actually it's not change, it's climate extremes. Just a bit more of whatever quality, too wet, too...... and not in accordance with the seasonal norms. What can one do? Just see it as the way it is. Be mindful and reduce anything that contributes harm to our environment, this is the only one we have.

Wheat Harvest at Logie Farm North Fife, a long rainy summer, the wettest I've known, causing the most amazing growth of vegetation particularly weeds. Fortunately just at the right time we are enjoying a dry windy sunny spell, I imagine the yields will be very good. Climate change has severely affected agricultural produce this year notably potatoes in this area with too much water, drought in America affecting corn and soya. Swings and roundabouts. Eventually there won't be enough to go round, millions of people starving in many countries already. Given our lifestyle we really do fiddle as Rome burns. Right now in Europe we are experiencing austerity, less income with rising commodity prices partly caused by speculators busy making more money at the expense of the rest of us. The wealthy of course tend to be those in power who look after themselves. I sincerely wish they develop empathy.
