Doug Wright and Anne Saunders were artists in residence at The Steeple, Newburgh during March and April 2011.
The Steeple is a studio and events complex opened in the rural town of Newburgh, Fife in 2008. It has 6 studios for artists, a project space run by local charity Fife Arts Co-operative and a flat and workspace for visiting artists.
Newburgh is situated in North Fife, Scotland. The setting is beautiful and overlooks the River Tay. It is situated just within the boundary of the Kingdom of Fife, 10 miles from Perth and 15 miles from Dundee. The Steeple itself is a prominent historical building in the town’s High Street and was empty for many years until Wasps set out to redevelop it back in 2001. There is a strong community of artists living in and around the area who are very welcoming to new artists visiting the town.
Below is a selection of artworks produced by Doug Wright during his stay here in Newburgh North Fife. In conversation Doug explained how he has been influenced by the ever changing quality of light compared to Australia. Depicted here in watercolours on heavyweight paper.
A shy Doug Wright.
